Kansas Cold Storage, which delivers perishable goods all over the country, needed a computer system that was fast, reliable, and easy to use. And for Chief Operating Officer Miles Jones, there was only one viable option. The Mac “has turned things around for us,” says Jones. “We can operate more productively and reliably now, and we don’t ever have to worry about downtime.”

“Apple’s iPhone 2.0 OS brought Cisco VPN, Exchange Server e-mail, and native custom applications to Apple’s devices, bringing utility to the mix to make the iPhone an enterprise shoo-in,” reports Tom Yager (infoworld.com) in his comparison of the iPhone to the Blackberry. “All of the iPhone’s standard applications are beautiful, responsive, and stable.” And, he says, “iPhone’s deal maker is the App Store.”

While there are a number of tour-related travel applications available for iPhone and iPod touch, Charleston City Slicker ($9.99) appears to be the first to offer a multimedia walking tour — complete with photos of key destinations, audio, and HD video. It also takes advantage of location services to alert you to restaurants and other points of interest. The developer plans tours for other cities in the future.
