Coming Attractions: The Secret Life of Bees
Based on the New York Times best-selling novel by Sue Monk Kidd, The Secret Life of Bees tells the touching story of 14-year old Lily Owens (Dakota Fanning). Haunted by the memory of her mother, Lily flees an abusive household with her friend Rosaleen (Jennifer Hudson) and takes refuge with the Boatwright sisters (Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys, and Sophie Okonedo). The film opens on October 17.
TV Guide: Prime Time Publishing
“We were amazed at how easy it was to work with so many images,” says TV Guide photo editor Godofredo Astudillo. He’s talking about the 200,000 images amassed for TV Guide’s all-important Fall Preview issue. And the amazement is for Aperture, the “digital Swiss Army knife that let us capture, caption, organize, rate, present, transmit, and back up terabytes of RAW images from four different photographers.”
Apps turn “iPhone into a powerful handheld computer”
Hiawatha Bray (boston.com) takes delight in the “torrent of helpful little programs” available for iPhone and iPod touch. On the App Store, he says, “there are thousands to choose from, with more turning up every day.” Bray favors “the powerful, the practical, and the cool - programs that do useful stuff and look stylish as they do it,” and he shares some of his favorite apps with us in his review.
iPhone named 2008 Gadget of the Year
After they tallied the votes, iPhone came up a big winner in the 2008 British Technology Awards. It not only claimed the award for Gadget of the Year but won the Best Mobile Technology, Most Stylish Technology, and Technological Innovation of the Year awards, as well. iTunes also won honors, seizing the Best Music Technology award for 2008.
