“The sexiest computer ever”

“It’s like nothing you’ve never laid your hands on,” says National Geographic’s Steve Casimiro (ngadventure.com) of the MacBook Air. “And yes, you have to lay your hands on it to get the full effect.” It has, he notes, “ the heft of a leather portfolio, the dimensions of a design magazine, and the cool-to-the-touch exterior of some exotic metal.” MacBook Air, Casimiro concludes, “is the future now.”

New Server

Just so everyone's aware, the blog has been moved from an old, bad server to a new, pretty (or so I've been told) server. So if you experience anything out of the ordinary, please let me know. I'm pretty sure I got everyone's comments over, and all the old posts, etc. But things always manage to slip through the cracks (like RSS feeds and other things). The current plan is to also try to upgrade my copy of Movable Type. However, to say that MT migrates data poorly is to understate the situation drastically. ;-) Once the upgrade happens, I'll be sure to let y'all know so that you can flood me with complaints about the new setup.

Calibrate your Macbook battery to keep it healthy

This is the proper procedure for calibrating the battery on all Macbook models.
Follow these steps to calibrate your battery:

Plug in the power adapter and charge your Macbook's battery until the light ring or LED on the power adapter plug changes to green and the on-screen meter in the menu bar indicates that the battery is completely charged.
Allow the battery to rest in this fully charged state for a minimum of two hours. You can use your computer during this time, but make sure that the adapter is plugged in.
Disconnect the power adapter with the computer still on, and start running the computer off battery power. You can use your computer during this time. When your battery gets low, you will see the low battery warning dialog on the screen.

Electronics: The Perfect Gift

Whether you're shopping for birthdays, graduations, or the holidays, finding great gifts for kids can be difficult. Although you're inundated with television commercials touting the latest toys and electronics, and the choices may seem overwhelming, most toys and electronics fade as fast as a sheet of wrapping paper left out in the sun. The trick to buying gifts for kids - whether they're your own or someone else's - is to select toys and electronics with longevity.
